Thinking about putting up a pop-up to get subscribers to your list? Think again! This is a rant. It’s about the pop-ups that we experience on some sites we visit.
Yesterday I was searching for some information on h1 tags. There is the argument that these tags should only be used one time per page. I’m skeptical of this, so I went searching.
I found a wonderful write-up on h1 tags and it seems the writer was portraying that if used moderately, there would be no “Google” slap for having done so.
I was reading down intently and needed to scroll down to read more. It would not scroll. Well, sometimes I have issues with speeds of my Internet connection so I waited a bit and was re-reading one of the places on the visible section. It wasn’t the speed…
It was one of those dratted pop-ups that separate your eyes from the content you are reading and grays everything else out – except that pop-up.
My Internet Annoyances
Trying to reach a page and the “Aw Snap!” page comes up. Browser trouble!
Internet connection drops
The Blue Screen of Death when the computer crashes.
Other computer/Internet/browser performances
Yes, I hate these things with a passion and so does most everybody else.
It’s Just Plain RUDE!
Just like someone cutting you in a grocery store line, or some other thing like this, pop-ups can be extremely annoying and distracting! Instead of the author’s desired result of getting me to sign-up to his/her list, I click away from the site altogether.
The last time this happened (yesterday) I wrote a short blunt note to the author.
He came back with “Sorry you don’t like them.”
But I went back to the site to get snapshots for an example of this, I found the author took the pop-up off.
