Does Wealthy Affiliate Ask for Credit Card Verification?

Does WA Require a Credit Card Verify?

email-spoofingI realize that, by this point in time, the post featured here, having been submitted on ComplaintsBoards.com, a consumer advocate forum, is rather old, but still very valid. I posted this because spoofing on the Internet is a very serious problem. It targets unsuspecting consumers who prospectively seek to purchase products and memberships. It hurts the entities and individuals who are providing the products and services, causing unwarranted bad publicity for them.

Email, and other types of online spoofing causes serious problems with online reputation management for otherwise reputable companies because unsuspecting consumers get official-looking materials from unscrupulous trouble-makers that have nothing better to do in life than to swindle money and harm reputations. The first place victims go after having been scammed are the companies that have, themselves been victimized by false emails, etc, being attributed to them. Angered consumers often hit the complaint boards and publicly attack individuals and companies that have been spoofed.

Being a long-standing member of Wealthy Affiliate, the famous online business community platform, loved and patronized by tens of thousands of people, I wrote this post in defense of the educational facility. Wealthy Affiliate is a place of learning the art and science of affiliate marketing at its best. Wealthy Affiliate, being an online entity is not exempt from these insidious activities.

The Allegation, and My Response

This consumer says:

“I haven’t visited this website but it doesn’t stop them from sending me multiple spam emails. These emails are asking me verify my credit card and it looks like scam. Avoid them.”

Here’s my response to this poster. It is rather brutally honest and hopefully serves as a lesson for folks to make sure what they are onto is what it is, and not an appearance. I is very easy to jump to conclusions without digging into something that is actually not what it appears…

You haven’t been to their website. In the first place, I highly suspect the emails you are getting are the work of a party other than Wealthy Affiliate. Here’s why…

spam emailYou would have had to join their starter membership to get any emails at all from Wealthy Affiliate. WA does NOT email people without their permission, nor does it engage in any sort of email marketing campaigns at all. Wealthy Affiliate discourages email spam, and teaches that it is unethical and should never be done. WA does not require a credit card for the free membership as commonly done in other memberships.

You will get a payment failure email ONLY if you are a paid member. If, for some reason your submitted CC information is in error or you don’t have sufficient funds in your bank account, you will get these warning emails. It does advise that you need to provide alternate payment terms and directs you to correct any issues with billing. Wealthy Affiliate will try to bill you three times before your paid account with them gets canceled. Again, this never applies to the free starter membership they offer. The emails you are getting do sound like scam, but they are NOT from WA.

I’ve been a member of WA for four years and out of all online business communities found on the Internet, I know how Wealthy Affiliate works and next to personally know the owners.

I urge you to dig in a little deeper to see where those emails are coming from. I guarantee, they are NOT coming from Wealthy Affiliate. So, before you bash an innocent party, it behooves you to get your aim before shooting off your gun.

Sidebar: How to Spot Phishing, Spoof Emails

What would happen if you found out someone you accused of a heinous crime was served the death penalty and executed … later to find out that this person was not guilty? It would no doubt make you feel awful. Obviously this is a little extreme as we are dealing with a company and not an individual, but the same moral principles apply. [link this] >>My personal experience with Wealthy Affiliate <<[link this] in this regard is that it deals ethically in all matters and has done nothing whatsoever to have warranted a complaint like this. If any billing issue do occur (and they occasionally do) I assure they are promptly and very quickly resolved. This one little complaint surely would not put WA out of existence by a long shot, but it could take away the potentially successful future of someone who would have benefited greatly by having been educated by Wealthy Affiliate, having read your complaint discouraging a prospective member. This is where an allegation like this can, and may have already done damage.

My Personal Invitation:

Looking for the best place you could possibly find on the Internet, free of hype, scams, is family-friendly, awesome community and buzzing with activities ripe for like-minded folks aspiring (and having attained) entrepreneurship?

It tried to buy wealthy affiliate premium with paypal (witch has enough money on it) but it says I need to add a credit crart, do you know how to fix this, because I don’t want to buy a credit card.
And you say you are a member of wealthy affiliate for four years, how much money did you earn. Just curious so I KNOW what is possible and how much I can earn with it. I know that it all depends on a lot of things, but I just want to get an idea!

Earning came of late for me but that’s because I deal with handicap, but always had that determination to go. Today I’m making a consistent income with WA and all of my sales have come from there. I can’t be a barometer for how each of us perform on WA. I will vouch that everything you need to start a publishing business online is there for you. However, how we perform is directly related to the energy and action you put into your work. This will train you how to build and maintain a business of whatever suits you. You will get help if you need it for niche selection, viability and how you can make almost any niche a money-maker. You’ll be learning how to create content and rank your sites. Business is spoken here and you will learn how to market your interests & passions

Where are you from? Do you have a bank card with a major credit card brand on it? I’ve used check cards ever since Methuselah, and I’ve never had to use a credit card. Just wondering which country you live in. If in the US, there’s no problem. Get an ATM card. It counts and it’s probably free to you if you live in the US.

Thanks for coming on! If you need anymore assistance, I will be more than happy to assist.
