In this article I would like to impress upon your mind the one most important aspect of achieving success, and that is “education.” We hear talk about how education, many times denoted as “schooling” does not do the trick with regard to becoming socially-stable and functional, alas, an entrepreneur, in the face of a failing economy.
Not All Education Is Equal
There are still many, if not most folks in the “masses” or “herds” that still believe that success comes in the form of procuring a PHD, a Master’s Degree, and other forms of certifications that come from higher education. Let’s see why a college degree today, holds far less value than it once did 50 years ago.
We will also note that having such a degree isn’t the top means of procuring anything beyond employment these days. Note that during the Great Depression, more fortunes were made than are being made now. Many of these folks were undeducated in the formal sense, and the same is still true today. Bill Gates, Robert Kiyosaki, Rush Limbaugh and other key figures are prime examples of high school drop-outs who are amongst the wealthiest folks today!
Why do they down conventional education, “schooling” as some people call it? What kind of education you get matters…
The Wrong Education
We often hear the advice, “Go to school, get good grades, graduate, so you can get a good job with high pay. Invest in 401K, and live the life of your dreams in your golden years.
This advice, having once worked well, no longer is fit for today’s economy. As successful entrepreneurs will tell us, our institutes of compulsory education and higher education are staffed by employees, the kind of education that comes from these institutions are tilted towards employee mentality. The entrepreneurs who started such institutions, in the way of business and enterprise, are outside the reach of both staff and students of such schools.
It stands to reason that these institutions are fully geared to disciplining and making ready its students for the roles of professions and employment, and indeed, they do. What’s even more insidious about the fact that these institutions still deliver obsolete advice and information to its students, they’re culminating these ideals into a Core Curricula. Read more about this on a blog post I created on Wealthy Affiliate. If you believe in entrepreneurial education, this will shake you a bit!
Today we many great minds that have been so prepared, graduated and not only waiting tables, cleaning restrooms, swinging a shovel in a ditch. While this isn’t true of all graduates, it is not surprising to find such in great numbers today in our advanced societies.
If you educate yourself through such channels, you will get what the masses get. Remember that there are many, many folks out there holding “Will work to eat” signs, with master’s degrees out there. There are college graduates out there. Take the case of Ronald Poppo, for example. Do a search on this name and find out what I mean. Though this is an extreme case, known as that person who had his face chewed off in Miami in the early summer of 2012, it the fact that there are so many homeless folks with college degrees is NOT uncommon.
The Right Education
We must note that there are many folks who have gone on to entrepreneurship and have become wildly successful at it to the degree that they are billionaires. There are untold numbers that have reached the status of millionaire. Even more who have reached the status of being financially-set, when most people in the middle class are now struggling from having to turn to poverty programs, Obamacare, and other social programs.
The right education comes from entrepreneurs who have made the grade and are in the position to administer advice on how to educate one’s self to attain the same.
Almost without fail, these folks will tell you that real education, education that brings about such success is NOT found in our institutions of higher education (see above.) We have folks such as Robert Kiyosaki that never made it past high school, start a business, fail, start another business, fail, and keep on doing this until success finally comes to fruition. I speak of “success” here to mean affluence, both in mind and in physical holdings.
Final Thoughts:
Today, more than at any other time, it is very possible, and far more common than ever, to acquire education that goes above and beyond employment. With the coming of the Internet, not only has this medium leveled out the playing field for many players in the game of starting businesses become possible for folks who can’t afford upper education and the startup of such businesses, it is being done by those who have found such resources and are taking advantages of them.
Conventional education today, will get you a good job … if you are lucky. In many cases, you will be in the bread lines.
