Media Effects Society – Some Implications of Being a Consumer

October 12, 2004 by Daniel Euergetes

I caught the entrepreneurial bug in the summer, 2004. This post, on my earliest website, is about how media effects society. 2010 was the year I made contact.

“If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.” –Dave Ramsey

A Post from My Oldest Web Document, “EUERGAIOS” is Reproduced Here…

The Industrial Age still permeates our modern-day society, though we have also entered the Age of Information. The vast majority will probably continue to be taken in by the Industrial Age lifestyle, however, there be a few who will rise above it and take control of their own lives, move on to a more praise-worthy existence, and throw off that designation so many take for granted — “consumer.”

Why should it matter being called a consumer?

It is a label and labels do the injustice of taking from our individual differences. They lump us into a convenient package to be scrutinized and targeted by advertisers and mass media. Then we are bombarded by vast quantities of messages that really don’t tell us anything worthwhile (some do have value, but not many.) However the frontier must be tamed. Mass media has the tools and tactics, and is well equipped to achieve this. They are well-funded and do this scientifically! In this lies the danger of modern-day children, working classes, and the elderly, as a whole, of losing the ability of being able to think critically. Instead we begin to think as we are programmed to think — gradually but effectively to get and spend! To the unscrupulous advertiser, that is the life and times of the “consumer.” We have lost the sight the ancients commonly treasured…that ability to think for ourselves and to think on our feet — to think critically.

Why should one side be fully armed, with a full set of armour on, be poised for attack, and in fact, stealthfully attacking, not with guns and ammunition, but with pleasure, with candy, with empty ideals, against a virtually defenseless multitude which vastly outnumbers the mass media agients, but are not as aware of these ploys as it should be? Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a one-way battle, one that could quickly be reversed…

The power of critical thinking should not be ignored!

My aim is to muster up tools for YOU — a member of whom insiders label a “consumer.” These tools are there to teach and inform in as many ways as it takes to turn you as an individual into a critical thinker, to rightfully divide the messages you get daily to make more informed decisions when purchasing a product or service. You would save money, get quality, and the right kind of attention you deserve. The money you save…would that not be considered a return? Yes, I would be inclined to think so.

  • You will not see nor respond to advertising again the way you do now.
  • Know how you are on the wrong side of the compound interest principle.
  • Know how certain special offers sound so good but are misleading!
  • How do automobile dealerships work and what’s in their favor?
  • How do insurance companies use statistics to win every time?
  • Why are candy bars, TV Guides, lighters, etc. put at the registers?
  • What’s the secret getting rich?
  • The Internet can be a very dangerous place. Can you recognise a spoof?
  • Planning to start an online business? Any business?

The right kinds of information, used properly, and applied, will result in personal growth for anyone who desires excellence. I will make money by selling or promoting it, but it is my sincere hopes that not only use the products, but benefit from their use. You will get products that are highly-endorsed, are not at all aimed to entrap you into any programs or clubs, just plain-jane courses, tutorials, and information, many at no cost, compiled in my Website for your personal and economic wellbeing. Of course, if you like any of these products, you may promote them yourself. My aim is to have something for everyone, but moreover, that most would find numerous items of high quality upon browsing EUERGAIOS.

Critical thinking does not teach you to stop purchasing or hate all advertising, it teaches you how to do these things properly and not get stung by them. It teaches concepts unscrupulous advertisers do not want you to know. It can help you be more politically informed, how to judge things more justifiably, when and when not to purchase. It is more of a science than that of people who know how to sell you ANYTHING. With this package I challenge those who seek to take advantage of people’s psychological and human traits.
